About Me

These are improvisations: neither a manifesto nor a treatise because life is too complicated for either. Yet, I'm improvising as an Arab--Palestinian-- woman with a progressive point of view always under construction. I use these improvisations to think out loud, so never take any post as my last word on a subject but think of it as the beginning of a conversation.

Calling War Criminals By Their Names

Human rights activists in Israel have created a web site that demands putting Israeli officials on trial for war crimes. Check it out if you know Hebrew.

Also a Belgian court petitioned to arrest Livni upon arrival in Brussels for war crimes. The petition is on behalf of Europeans who had relatives killed or injured during the Israeli attack on Gaza.

Palestinian Civilians Who Are Not Yet Decapitated By Israeli Raids Continue to Resist

Bi'lin for Gaza, wielding the most devastating Palestinian "weapon" Israel had ever to face and reminding the world--particularly lying politicians and journalists--that there is no WAR in Gaza--just a brutal army slaughtering civilians.

For sending the Israeli ambassador packing in protest over the Gaza massacres.

The Most Effective Way to Exterminate Palestinian Children and Get Away With it

Force them into one house. Shell them repeatedly. Let the injured die of wounds and the survivors die of starvation.

Oh, and don't forget to keep repeating: "Israel doesn't target civilians." And every now and then say that "it wasn't us who shelled; it was them." And occasionally it's effective to say that "we will investigate."

As if the Palestinians Don't Have Enough Enemies

Here comes Joe the Plumber. He has been hired as a war correspondent by a right wing web site and he's heading to Israel to do some "reporting." I guess the Israeli propaganda machine is unable to do do its filthy job as good as they would like, so their right wing supporters decided to help them by getting out the big gun.

If I weren't full of disgust at the universe, I'd laugh.

They Will Continue to Lie

"The United Nations’ top official in the Gaza Strip said on Wednesday that there were absolutely no armed men inside the UN school in Jabaliya that was the target of an Israeli attack that left 45 dead."

Livni: "We are not trying to punish the Gaza population"

"Gaza – Ma’an – Israeli shelling in the Gaza Strip on Sunday morning killed 14 members of two families whose homes came under fire....Seven members of the Abu Eisha family were torn to pieces by shelling, said medical officials at Ash-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. According to the medics the parents and their five children were killed when Israeli warships shelled their home in the Al-Mashtal area in the north of Ash-Shati Refugee Camp, on the shore west of Gaza City.

Medical officials at Ash-Shifa hospital also confirmed on Monday morning the deaths of seven people, including four children all members of the Samuni family in the Zaytoun neighborhood of Gaza City. Family members who managed escape the shelling claimed more than seven people may have been killed."

"“God has no mercy! You get me her leg now!”

"“There is so much amputation.”

Voices from Gaza's Hell

"The children lie there without arms, without legs, without speaking, they don't even cry."

"Are You Normal?"

"A. offered his own take on the situation: "I keep the children away from the windows because the F-16s are in the air; I forbid them to play below because it's dangerous. They're bombing us from the sea and from the east, they're bombing us from the air. When the telephone works, people tell us about relatives or friends who were killed. My wife cries all the time. At night she hugs the children and cries. It's cold and the windows are open; there's fire and smoke in open areas; at home there's no water, no electricity, no heating gas. And you [the Israelis] say there's no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Tell me, are you normal?"

A Saudi Fatwa Against Demonstrations in Support of Gaza

"وصف رئيس مجلس القضاء الاعلى في السعودية الشيخ صالح اللحيدان مظاهرات التنديد بالعدوان الاسرائيلي على قطاع غزة، بـ'الفساد في الأرض'، مبررا رؤيته بأن المظاهرات 'تصد عن ذكر الله، حتى وإن لم يحصل فيها تخريب'."

Translation: the head of the highest court in Saudi Arabia, Al Sheikh Salih al7aydan, described the demonstrations protesting the Israeli aggression on Gaza as "corruption on Earth." He justified his opinion by saying that demonstrations "distract from mentioning God, even if there is no damage results from it."

I wonder if he also condemns the people of Gaza for screaming when they see their kids torn to pieces and burned alive. For that can be seen as turning away from God.

Another of the great achievements of the most powreful and moral army in the Middle East

"Gaza - Ma’an – A mother and her four children became the most recent victims of an ongoing Israeli air and ground offensive on the Gaza Strip on Sunday, bringing the death toll 35 since the ground invasion began on Saturday night."

Why the Palestinians Shouldn't Have Children

"Sixteen out of the 30 killed in Israeli airstrikes since New Year’s Eve were children; nine were from the same family and nine of the adults killed were women.

Fifty-seven percent of Palestinians killed so far in 2009 have been children."

"When Evil-Doing Comes Like Falling Rain"

Like one who brings an important letter to the counter after office hours: the counter is already closed.

Like one who seeks to warn the city of an impending flood, but speaks another language. They do not understand him.

Like a beggar who knocks for the fifth time at a door where he has four times been given something: the fifth time he is hungry.

Like one whose blood flows from a wound and who awaits the doctor: his blood goes on flowing.

So do we come forward and report that evil has been done us.

The first time it was reported that our friends were being butchered there was a cry of horror. Then a hundred were butchered. But when a thousand were butchered and there was no end to the butchery, a blanket of silence spread.

When evil-doing comes like falling rain, nobody calls out "stop!"

When crimes begin to pile up they become invisible. When sufferings become unendurable the cries are no longer heard. The cries, too, fall like rain in summer.

Bertolt Brecht
