About Me

My Photo
These are improvisations: neither a manifesto nor a treatise because life is too complicated for either. Yet, I'm improvising as an Arab--Palestinian-- woman with a progressive point of view always under construction. I use these improvisations to think out loud, so never take any post as my last word on a subject but think of it as the beginning of a conversation.

"Laila's Birthday"

Rashid Masharawi's new film "Laila's Birthday" is playing in New York. The setting is Ramallah under occupation. No wonder "absurd" is the key word in the NYT's review.

Here's a trailer: (thanks Sondra)

Playing at MoMA until June 1st.
Maybe if enough people see it, U.S. exhibitors will grow enough balls to make Palestinian film accessible beyond the NYC art world!

I hope enough people see it. I wish I could.
