Go After Him!
A Moroccan lawyer is suing a salafi Islamist leader for issuing a fatwa that permits marrying off nine-year-old girls. The lawyer is charging Al Maghrawi of violating the laws of the country encouraging the sexual violation of children. He also charged him of defaming Islam with such fatwas.
I doubt that Al Maghrawi will be charged with anything. But it is about time to go on the attack against the fatwa industry. Sue them, make fun of them, do something, anything, but don't let them speak in the name of your religion.

Amal, go get 'em. You'll do a great job at the 'express biting sarcasm' at them.
thanks kinzi
Agreed, go after whoever among the ulema is trying to push the 9-yr-old brides practice.
But la, ya Amal, don't diss the "fatwa industry," please. Fatwas are how we Muslims get practical business done in fiqhi discourse. They are how those Muslims who care about observing religion, including Muslim feminists, get cases examined and new rulings issued. And the fatwa business, among sunnis, is open to anyone who hangs out a shingle--and who proves their ilm deeni, their religious scholarship. This is both bad and GOOD--women scholars of fiqh can be and HAVE been in the past, issuers of fatwas.
Fatwas are just a tool. They can be used for good or for bad. Don't disrespect the hammer and the nails; deal with who weilds them, how.
Hugs,
Damascene Queen
