El Shater Hassan Vs. The UK Government

"A 60-year-old Palestinian will begin a case against the UK government in the High Court later when he will say that sales of arms to Israel are illegal. Saleh Hassan, who lives on the West Bank, says his land was confiscated by Israel to make way for its barrier. He claims Israel uses military equipment bought in Britain to repress Palestinians which, he says, violates their human rights...He will argue that the UK sale of arms-related equipment to Israel breaks laws that prohibit the export of military equipment to countries where there is a clear risk they might be used for internal repression or the violation of fundamental freedoms."

The phrase, "Asking the fox to guard the chicken coop" comes to mind.

I was at a talk in SOAS once earlier in the year and one of the people there a lawyer, I forgot his name, had been putting forward examples about this. I had posed a similar question in similar words and his answer was quite interesting. Essentially when you have a right, when you win such a case or set a precedent, keep it, file it and you may find it useful. Don't just trash the whole system or actor as illegitimate or impartial and thus waste what could be an opportunity. I've yet to decide whether he is right or not.

ok for me comes to mind hypocracy.. "internal opression?" decide.. are we occupiers or governers? is the land ours or yours? typical palestinian rhetoric is based on paradoxical arguments..

international law bla blabla when convenient.. however palestinian society and governance has no interest in upholding international law.. making it impossible for us to tolerate the onesided claims

so if you want to try all positions.. how about trying a peaceful one for a change.. then we may finally all see some progress in the region..
