"Despite repeated promises to reduce the number of roadblocks in the West Bank, Israel has in fact added dozens of new ones, according to the United Nations....the number of roadblocks has now reached 572, an increase of 52 percent compared to 376 in August 2005."

Re: Chokepoints
Not only are chokepoints a violation of human rights, they are also clear indications that those enforcing them, Have No Lives. The next time I hear an Israeli nationalist rages about why 'their women' are marrying Arab men, I'll point out that maybe this wouldn't be happening as much if the Jewish men are there courting them instead of flexing muscles at the checkpoints they set up.
...PS, have you heard about the problems with the filming of the Kite Runner movie, in which the Afghan boy, twelve years old, and his parents, weren't told about the rape scene, until days before. They also requested the /child/ to take off his pants for the scene. Realism be damned, where a minor is involved, they should have been much more delicate than manipulative.

Mercurial,
I'm not so sure about your theory of why Israeli women are marrying Arab men! But I agree that those manning these chokingpoints should find better things to do than humiliate a hostage population.
No, haven't heard about the Kite Runner bit. Wasn't the book bad enough, now we need a movie too?
I think people marry people they want to marry, when they have a choice. ...but, while there are those who rebel through /going out of their way/ to date people that their parents don't approve of (though that certainly doesn't mean that I'm not actually attracted to people my parents don't approve of), when it comes to marriage, familiar is /easier/.
Availability is also an...easier, if so many Jewish men have tied themselves up at the checkpoint, there will be less Jewish men around, so there will plainly be much less Jewish men x Jewish women or Jewish men x Anyone pairing. While there are women who are collaborators to the patriarchy, as women are an oppressed group, beneath the rule of men who seeks to control our bodies, etc, women are more likely to sympathetic to the Arab men who have to put up with the checkpoint BS.
...and...sympathy along won't get a man a wife, but it can lead to dialogue that does, I don't know any woman who would waste any chances on men being wholly unsympathetic.
I actually haven't read that book yet, because the summary made me too ill...but I heard about it through the movie controversy...though I think, the wrong is clearly committed by the film company, and I'm wholly disgusted by the 'blame the victim' mentality going on at the livejournal community, ohnotheydidnt. With such disturbing scenes, they should have told him about it, from the start, and realism be damned, a twelve year old boy should not be nude for that scene. Assault scenes have been filmed effectively before using disjointed shots of limbs without anybody having to take their clothes off.
Also, considering the boy actor played one of the main characters, and how traumatizing that scene is, 10 thousand dollars are peanuts, how much is the Harry Potter cast getting paid again?
