"But the routine of the checkpoints, which robs from the Palestinians hundreds of thousand of hours of life and energy every day, completely evades the Israeli media. This loss of time is a much more effective weapon than any artillery shell in draining the Palestinian people, until they agree to a solution of an enclave-state," writes Amira Haas.
Or worse--until they give up and leave.

She's right. I've given up and left, its only land, and I'd rather live, than be treated like an animal...
It's a delicate situation, some may think, for him/herself, that it's cowardly to leave, but well, some people leave for the sake of their children. In the decade leading up to 1997, those that could afford to leave Hong Kong, left before its return to a mainland government that was less than good and sane. Confucius believes, and I disagree with the first part of his belief, that people should be loyal and dumb, and the ruler should be kind and wise. The rulers have full power in China now, but they are definitely not kind and wise.
...but I regret leaving, or having left since the decision was in the hands of my parents...when I see people march in HK on July 1st. I don't like how I want to belong in that but can't.
