A right winger MP in the Netherlands, Geert Wilders, who wants to ban the Qur'an. He calls it a "fascist book" and likens it to Hitler's Mein Kampf. He also wants no more Muslim immigrants and definitely no more mosques.
Wilders is widely known for being as intelligent as my coffee table.
But seriously, what's with those Dutch? Every time a politician is bored and wants a career change all he or she needs do is say something stupid about Islam, get police protection, then land a job with the American Enterprise Institute?

look amal the dutch have a vibrant and colorful right wing minority, but there is no reason to heed them any attention for a few reasons;
* they don't flow well with the liberal majority there
* they spout alot of trash on everyone there
* the only reason for them to garner traction is on immigration issue which thankfully the netherlands doesn't have much of
tho i always find it entertaining, i think the belguims compete with the dutch in that arena on who can spout more crap
Let them ban the Qur'an. It's their country, afterall.
Hi no-angel,
your points are good. But I think we do need to point out their nitwitness.
I'm troubled by your word "thankfully" in relation to not much immigration.
manas,
No, it isn't. It's also the country of the Muslim Dutch.

I think no-angel is saying that the Netherlands does not have much of a social/political ISSUE (i.e., controversy) over immigration, not that the Netherlands does not have much immigration per se.
Actually, I thought that the Dutch have been having a nonstop controversy over Muslim immigration, especially after the murder of Theo van Gogh. Maybe no_angel is implying that that controversy has died down by now, although I thought it was still going strong (witness Wilders' call to ban the Koran).
I didn't think it was like the Dutch to ban books, although the Belgians (and the Dutch?) have apparently banned wearing the burqa in some districts, for security reasons.
James,
sorry for the late response.
I hope no angel meant the phrase the way you understood. In that case, I have no problem with it even if I disagree.
You are right to point out to Dutch controversies about Islam. And you are right about their ban on the niqab in certain public places. I blogged about that not long time ago.
