It seems those orchestrating the attack on Mahmoud Darwish are Azmi Beshara's guys! I bet what ticked them off is this line in Darwish's text following the Hamas Gaza takeover. Here's the line:
لا يغيظني الأصوليون، فهم مؤمنون على طريقتهم الخاصة. ولكن، يغيظني أنصارهم العلمانيون، وأَنصارهم الملحدون الذين لا يؤمنون إلاّ بدين وحيد: صورهم في التلفزيون
Translation: "Fundamentalists do not vex me, because they are believers in their own way. But I'm vexed by their secular and atheist supporters who believe only in one religion: their pictures on TV."

What's Azmi Beshara got to do with it?
This piece totally depoliticizes Darwish--not good!
It seems he's behind the attacks on Darwish for returning to Haifa for a poetry evening. He's mentioned by name in this article

Later today I'll post a Joseph Mass'ad piece in which he attacks Darwish for the post-Hamas takeover piece.
That Massad article was amazing. Amal you are so wrong on this issue and I feel disappointed reading your blog lately. In fact I think you are sectarian towards Hamas, while you meet the mounting evidence against Abbas and Dahlan's gangs with silence.
Many people are breaking ranks against Fatah because the leadership is openly colaborating with Israel and the US.
I am shocked that you support the side of oppression against Hamas, just because you disagree with Hamas' politics. That is sectarian.
PS: You know you are wrong when zionists agree with you.
Sorry Amal, you are on the wrong side on this issue.
I'll take my sectarian blinds off for a minute.
There is a curious phenomenon among Palestinians.
It is as though Palestinians of Christian background feel compelled to over compensate for this accident.
A similar thing happens in the opposite direction with Hamas' rhetoric concerning the Christians; compensating for the fundamentalist lunacy.
We are witnessing the dynamics here;
a phenomena that points to problems in Palestinian society.
Where is the Massad piece published? Is it the on dated 28 June and published in al-ahram?
It's becoming too mystifying to make any sense to me...
