"In Praise of the Occupation"
"No wonder there is nostalgia for the occupation that existed before 1991!" writes Amira Hass.

You know, if you get passed the stupid title and the rhetoric, I think the article makes some good points. I read another article recently that had a similar idea; it would be far more beneficial to forget about issues like "sovereignty" and "respecting borders" and instead allow free movement, trade, etc. to improve the livelihood of everyone in that area. http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/site/article/3436/
Frankly, I think a similar phenomenon happened in the United States when the "white" Americans forced Native Americans onto reservations and then forgot about them. In the meantime, the reservations remained extremely impoverished and have huge problems with alcoholism, violence, suicide, etc.. The non-native Americans in some cases continued to exploit the Native American reservations over issues like water rights, nuclear disposal, and mining. The "sovereignty" of the reservations did not solve the problems it was hoped to. I hope we don't make the same mistakes with the Palestinians.
