If you want to know what misogyny is, read the comments by hundreds of Al Arabiya readers on the Haifa Wahbi's car accident. You really would think this woman is a mass murderer or someone responsible for the humiliation of the Islamic Umma and the Arab nation.
Why can't people just say they dont' like her songs, her voice, her video clips, what she stands for, without wishing her death so fervently?
Where does all this hate come from?

hi amal,
i would like to add that misogyny in the arab world includes also haifa wehbeh herself. dont get me wrong, im condemning all those sho carry a hatred towards her. moreoever, i support any persons right to dress and act as she pleases (if it were up to me, i'd have ppl walk naked, its most natural), however haifa plays along misogynystic behavior, trying to please men that objectify women. i dont see her at all leading a sexual revolution.
they hate her because they want to sleep with her and they can't--she won't let them!!!
simple.
Hi Haytham,
I agree with you. I'm not at all a fan of Haifa Wahbi's persona or performances and I've lampooned them before from a feminist point of view. But when I read such hateful comments about a woman regarding of who she is and I'm taking aback.
ng,
the women too?
may be for those who fancy her, but those who don't they are jealous that their partners fancy her. triangulation!
poor Haifa..
no worries about H. the good thing about her is that she really does not care what people think about her. she's past all that. she continues to hold fast to religion and god. she's naughty, though, no! not that I mind that, but it freaks people out--those who think that the authentic muslim is so and so. it actually would freaks me out if one will dare to tell me--because of my secular approach to religion--that i am not a muslim. actually, if you listen to Karadawi--and he's a light-weight orthodox--he would say either you're a muslim or secular (3ilmani), and therefore no longer a muslim. this is bull!!! and that's why Haifa actually matters!!
incahllah tqoom labes!
I think a woman so free with her sexuality scares and angers them.
And makes them feel less powerful, because if Haifa can be that way, why not their own wives and mothers?
