Women Are Dirtier Than men?!

The answer, apparently, is yes. We are talking dirtier as in germier and not as in thinking about sex all the time.

It's scientific too. A team of researchers concluded that "Women's workstations tend to harbour far more germs than those of their male colleagues" and that "the average office desktop harbours 400 times more bacteria than the average office toilet seat." Women need Clorox more because they stash food in their desks, wear make up, and deal with children. Ewwwwh Yuk!!

I'm freaked out! Just poured a gallon of Clorox on my keyboard!

BTW, it is totally a coincident that Clorox funded the above study.

And it is totally a coincident that historically these companies targeted women to buy their products. For example, the ad below caution that a married woman "must realize that there is a very common odor which she herself may not detect but is so apparent to people around her."

But they came a long way, baby! There was a time when Lysol was advertised as a "disinfectant" for women's ... vaginas!! I'm not kidding. See the ad below from 1928. (click on it to enlarge and read the fascinating text)

So it's a huge step for womankind that now women need Lysol to clean their keyboards, not to lacerate their vaginas. I call that progress!

wait a minutes...

We, as women, give birth and maintain human evolution and we have to put up with this shit!

We got a long way to go.

qwaider,

ya. try some Lysol and tell me how you like it.

Lena,

Oh god, now that you mentioned birth and all the oozing that comes with it, you're going to have us fried to be disinfected. Lysol won't cut it, so to speak!

"So that's why Dick has been so cool to me." HA HA HA HA. Poor Dick.

Qwaider قويدر said...

Amal, Pass me some strawberry flavored Lysol and I'll try it and let you know ;-)

Come on for god's sake. So they discovered that women have locations that could contain more germs. Do you contest that? Are you in a position to scientifically refute their claim?
I guess not!
Sorry if I'll take their word over yours. It's practically common sense that certain dark, damp, warm areas are fertile grounds for bacteria.
Add to that, longer nails, longer hair (in general). And you end up with more locations for germs.
Add to that the numerous chemicals that women apply to their skins and you have greater reasons to believe them
But on top of that, they have the date to prove it.

Qwaider,

I'm willing to concede that my hand bag is a health hazard: crumbs of chocolate chip cookies, lipstick, crayons, loose change and lots of other stuff that can't really be good for u.

But that is not the issue. The issue is bigger and nastier.

The female body has historically been seen as dirtier than the male body: it had to be cleaned, kept away. It had to be purified before it could make contact with the sacred. Women's bodies ooze and leak! According to the ad I posted, feminine bodies have an "odor" that the woman herslef can't smell but everyone around her can!!!! What do u call that? science? What had happened to that odor since then? Shu ndefna all of a sudden? our bodies "evolved" so now we don't need Lysol to scar our insides?

Qwaider قويدر said...

There is a huge difference between Cleanliness, and Purity.
The term "Taher" although it may mean clean as well, it not necessarily means clinically clean
Both male and female bodies have multiple odors. The close proximity to the odor makes it appear as if it's transparent to us. That much is true.
Now a women's odor isn't worse than say.. someone with bad breath. I don't see any major reason for concern UNLESS it is a health risk
Historically, and generally women are more concerned with personal hygiene. They like to keep things neat, pretty and smelling wonderful. They themselves have set the bar so high for the rest of the women.
As for us guys, we make the world thank us every time we take a shower :D

I think we cant be naive and believe that even scientific studies are not effected by politics and biases. Only 50 years ago blacks were scientifically proven to be less developed and are not as inteligent as whites. Which we know today is quack sience and bigotry.

Amal A said...

good point, Lena. I'm glad I'm beginning to get some help around here. Qwaider alone is a handful :)

Amal A said...

Yes, Sandra, poor dick indeed.

Qwaider قويدر said...

Ok, just let me state something here for the record
The fact that someone has more or less germs adds absolutely nothing to anything!
Comparing this with bigotry against blacks is an unfair comparison because one means that someone is a lesser human while the other one is just stating some "fact", just like saying boys have penises and girls have vaginas. All the feminists in the world are not going to make that statement anti-women!

Amal and Lena, I'm really starting to suffocate of the opposite sexism that I feel. At some point getting women's rights is one thing, violating men's while doing it is not, being too skeptic of anything that even remotely insinuates that there are differences between the sexes!
We really need to celebrate our differences and enjoy them ... instead

lena said...

sorry Qwader I dont think you get it that women face sexism from the big to the small. Like hack studies that reinforce sexist ideas about women. A study about women being dirtier then men is not just absurd, but it could lead to women being blamed for work place problems or anything else.
It reinforces women to be less then men. So it reinforces sexist ideology in general. If you dont get that then I'm not sure if you understand what women go through.

I just want to add that i dont buy that you are oppressin me cuz I am a man bullshit. I think it insults the true oppression women face. Its like saying Palestinians are oppressing Israeli's for throwing rocks at their tanks.

Qwaider قويدر said...

Humph! This is just so frustrating!
Chris rock said in one of his stand up comedies. "You can never win an argument with a woman". It doesn't matter if you're wrong or right!

If I say that women are more susceptible to having aids, that becomes a sexist remark!? Why? When germs and viruses get to marinate in warm, humid, dark locations it is still considered sexist!

Now I don't deny that there might be some shady statistics, but to refute it you need to (a) make sense of the opposite point, or (b) prove with an opposing statistical study that the evidence is inconclusive or it's the other way around, or (c) Prove the methodologies being used is flawed.
Have any of you fine ladies done that? NO, you have not!

Equating things like trivial information like who has more or less germs to Palestinian Israeli conflict is another form of mental terrorism that many women practice. Not only that it's also disrespectful to the just and fair cause that Palestinians struggle for

I'm a man, and knowing about germs or no germs are not going to put off my appetite. And it would NEVER influence my decision to hire a qualified person. It's just a little trivial info that means NOTHING in the real world

why do you read a blog that is for womens rights?
Let me see...
1. You like to bait women and to tell them to shut up (see earlier comments)
2.You like to waste our time in responding to your pathetic and sexist comments
3. You want to discourage other women to say what they think by de facto saying womens oppression is not real so ... they should shut up(according to you)
4. You have an agenda to promote your sexist ideas by commenting on this blog

I see right through you.

By the way it is not terrorism to compare and unite in solidarity injustices including the following: The occupation of palestine, racism, war and occupation, bigoty against gays, women, immigrants, and sexism.

Read slowly:
Its called fighting injustice anywhere and everywhere.
Read your damn history

I know it might not be your thing so get off it and off this blog.
That is my vote.
What do others think????????????

You're more blind than I thought you were
Your intimidation techniques are not going to stop me from coming here and learning more, and stating my points.
The first step to social justice is harboring diversity. And if you think this is not possible, then you don't even have a worthy cause.

I disagree, and find it offensive that certain things you went along and equated. Occupation of Palestine and anything else! You're comparing something where people are dying, and have been dying for 60 years to .. all the rest!

You have no right to tell me to get off anything ...
Are you enjoying this? stirring up fights? falsifying stuff and shove it down every one's throats for some sadistic pleasure that you have?

If someone has dealt you some injustice, don't do the same to others! Learn from your experience and set the right response

Lena said...

You are telling me to "set the right response" after you called me stupid many times in one comment and you told femminists to shut up or to stop complaining? And you want to support diversity?

Calling women that want to fight oppression stupid and telling them to shut up about it is not diversity it is SEXISM.

Qwaider قويدر said...

You're mixing comments from two different posts. If you check this one, you will see that I didn't say shut up, but you still wanted to lie about it anyway ... right?

I didn't call YOU specifically stupid , but that sentence is directed to anyone who thinks they are. And please try to remain in the context of the same post. This randomization proves that you are not making any sense, and confusing matters.

Focus ... focus! And try to get your point across ... Instead of resorting these childish incoherent attempts

Lena said...

What was incoherent about

Calling women that want to fight oppression stupid and telling them to shut up about it is not diversity it is SEXISM.

Hi Qwaider,

You do miss the big picture and you mistakenly take any critique of sexism and partirarchy as men bashing from irrationally angry feminists who must have something terrible happen to them and made them think the way they think. Isn't this what you mean by wondering "what my story" is? See, the thing is as women we heard all this before.

What do you want me to say? That I was abused and tortured? That I had my heart broken by cruel men who deserted me? That the "anger" I express is nothing by that of a "woman scorned"? Or or or...

I hate to disappoint you, but there is no story. Probably my background and upbringing is not different from yours. I feel anger towards any injustice, including that directed at women. Why is my anger against occupation, racism, islamophobia not questioned (at least by you) but my anger at sexism is? Then is my tone really angry? I know sometimes it is, but most of the time it is not.

What you miss in this discussion about dirtiness is the rest of my post. I used the story about the workplace to highlight a history of advertising that targeted women and their bodies. You totally ignore that and focus on just the workstation stuff. Like you, I would just shrug my shoulders if the issue was only about germs in the bandbag. But there is a history and a context. It's all part of the ideology that taught us that our bodies are dirty and should be hidden, disciplined, and purified. That sexist ideology my post shows is not particularly Arab. It's shared.

If you are really interested in listening to other people's points of view, and I actually think you are sincerely interested, then try to see the whole picture and don't be so defensive. It's not an attack against you. I hope you keep reading and questioning.

Qwaider قويدر said...

Thanks Amal for taking the time to explain things.
I did read the rest of the post but as you have seen, the "discussion" diverged from the topic completely.

I don't disagree with everything you say, that's why I would "shut up" my self and agree with my silence.

Now I thank you for allowing me to state my points, even though some might not be tolerated (for some reason).
But anyway, thanks for extending the welcome (In your Face Lena ... Na Nana Na Na!)

Now seriously, lets all agree that we all want to seek justice for women but not at the expense of the rest of society. We might be different in our approach, we might disagree by each other's methods, but lets not dismiss anyone because of these differences

Amal A said...

Hey, don't you try to put a wedge between me and Lena!!! : )

I don't want you or Lena to shut yourselves up. These issues should be debated and questioned. My thoughts are going to become sharper and clearer in interaction with those who agree and disagree with me.

I see you moved the debate to safer territory. Cool!

Qwaider قويدر said...

You think it's safer there!!!?

I think men in general needs to be reminded about where they came from; our uterus, and then into the world through our vagina, nose and mouth still filled with the nourishing blood of our uterine linings.

i admire your spirit. especially in the context of this post. i often fail to understand how and why women allow either sensitivities or insecurities to interfere with their rationale but it seems inevitable. i clearly see your point and totally agree with it. if anything i think this world could really do with more men who think the way you do and who can control their angers/frustrations, specifically regarding womens issues. i wish more women like this too.
nway: this was an interesting read and you know at the end of the day:
silence is still the best reply to a fool :)
