Super Star is the Arab/Lebanese version of American Idol. Ok, I admit it. I'm a fan. Thanks to Jump TV, I can now watch it on my laptop.
It's still the early stages, but here are some observations:
Unlike previous seasons, there are two guys in wheelchairs participating. As of tonight, they're still in, and I hope they last. But I noticed that they needed to be carried on the stage by their colleagues. That's ridiculous. The stage must be wheelchair accessible. How hard is it to make a ramp? Get to work, people!!
As usual the program privileges Lebanese and Egyptian songs, as in tonight's episode when the contestants had to perform one of two songs (by Abdel Haleem and Fairuz). I think Gulfi and North African participants are at a disadvantage no matter how popular the songs are.
Ziad Butrus's antics are getting really stale. He's just not funny. And the show has barely started. God help us.

I didn't watch everything but I remember they took a very young boy and I think one person from Dearborn made it. Amal, do you have a link to where you watch it online? I watch Star Academy sometimes...mixed feelings about it!!! But, what can we say? This is the way it is done now everywhere--irrevocable globalization
!

The boy lost last week. I don't know the one from Dearborn.
the link is
www.jumptv.com
but you need to subscribe. Once you subscribe, you get it instantly. And the reception is not bad at all.
I can't stand Star Academy. The host drives me nuts with her fakeness. Yes, it's globalization. I always thought there's a good paper in comparing super start to American idol, just to see how it's tailered for an Arab audience. I'd do it if I had time. But no go, as you'd say.
Egypt is in North Africa....
No way!! When did they move?
