If video clip director Jad Sawaya is king of soft porn, his countryman Salim el Turk is the sultan of the M/S variety. El Turk loves to have his men thrashed around, beaten, and branded with hot iron by women. He did it to Yuri Mrakadi a couple of years ago and is doing it now to Aziz Abdo, former Mr. Lebanon and prominent member of the "we-can't-sing-a-note-if-our-lives-depended-on-it- but-we-can-let-it- all-hang-out" school of entertainment.
So Aziz, who had one dance floor hit called "Jaw Jnoun," goes to Salim with this new song that says: "you started the fire. bla bla. But I'll never love anyone else no matter what" Salim thinks, man, what a cliche. How can we make this visually interesting and get the most out of Aziz well-toned body and the least of his voice." Here's how:
Aziz arrives home and gives his woman the cold shoulder. Shot of him undressing to take a bath. Another shot of him naked in the bathtub. She disrobes, joins him in the bathtub. Some soft focus of them making out in the past. Shot of him getting out of the bathtub. But that is the boring part.
After the bath, he's still playing hard to get. But then a fantasy hits him. Hard. Suddenly, he is in a torture chamber, his woman transformed into a dominatrix. A shot of him in a hospital ward, surrounded by nurses in skimpy outfits poking at his body. Then they all prance around together. Back to torture. The woman brands him on the neck with some hot, phallic looking equipment. Images of a tribe of amazons hovering menacingly. Then a close up of his face all bruised and bloodied. Back to reality. He's in bed with her, making up. We leave, out of respect for their privacy.
Next time I hear someone say "love is torture," a bloodied, bruised, burned, and naked Aziz Abdo will come to mind. That is torture.

could it be because he is shown in a way similar to the way we are used to seeing women: that is, as object of the gaze, his body on display, so in that sense he's being "feminized" by the camera and our look?
Yes, the videos do define masculinity as hetersexuality. But could a man be masculine and gay?
yes i think many gay men are masculine.
I too sometimes watch videos and wonder if the male singer is gay if I think he interacts strangely, in a distant way, with the women.
There is a high probability that a significan minority of these male or female singers are gay, so it makes me wonder when I watch the videos if some could be in the closet.
This video is so tacky and lame. You are right amal about the fetish/ femme fatale thing and it is just bizarre.
It s a breath of fresh air that you place responsibility for this crap on the producer. It is no coincidence that many of these videos and "artists" are a copy of each other. The producers control the overall look of the video and the artist, while answering not to the fans but the monopoly record companies that want to sell units and make profits.
Aziz is just a prop.

All are in the closet as far as I know because being out of the closet is not an option...so far.
I sometimes wonder what would happen if it turns out that Abdel Haleem Hafiz was gay? He never got married, you know and he was never "masculine" the way Fareed Shawki or Rushdi Abaza were. Would people stop liking his songs? Would they acquire a different meaning? Would the romance disappear?
I can start a rumor just to test. Bad idea?

it's not like i'm against them...on the contrary, I envy them because they can talk about their sexuality in public even if they were attacked by many....on the other hand I (as a girl) can't talk about my sexuality and say I like men...or I like/desire a guy and feel bad because he's gay...not because he's gay..but because he won't "want" me!
