I was happy to see that the latest spate of kidnappings and killings in Gaza didn't distract attention from some other important news, such as Ismail Haniyeh's "new look." (in Arabic)
Haniyeh has sported a Koufeyeh lately. He first showed up in a red one but then, perhaps after learning that it is associated with the leftists in Palestine, he decided to wear the black and white one. This wardrope decision earned him the accusation that he is imitating Arafat, but two of his spokesmen denied such baseless and malicious charges and threatened to sue anyone who would question the prime minister's radical chicness. They refused, however, to confirm or deny the news that a recent shipment of multiple colored koufeyehs has arrived in Gaza directly from Urban Outfitters.

yes, I see the black and white one suits his black and white lahyyia!
ng
I bet a dollar that he will gravitate to green and white.
We are still in the era of tarabish Abd al-7amīd..
well, honestly, when he came back from hajj i did wonder where all the power suits went- but i really do not think this whole issue deserves an entire article in itself- seriously, i could care less about what he was wearing right now or his 'new look'.(have u noticed arabs are obsessed with the phrase 'new look'? )
anyway i think its funny that the second he puts on the palestinian kuffieyeh he's arafat all of sudden- as if to say that it was arafat's symbol, not a national palestinian symbol. the other day i walked into a coffee shop wearing it around my neck and the guy behind the counter enthusiastically exclaimed: 'hey! arafat!'
I read an amusing article (intended to be serious) in Al Quds Al Arabi saying that Hanniyah's red Kufeyya was a message of the "unity of the two banks" of the Jordan River with Jordan. In fcat, the article writer created a whole story of political movement out of this new look!
ng,
The man got style!
rabee,
u may lose this one. the green and white was discontinued by urban outfitters.
Hi Falastiniyeh,
not only a whole article about this, but also two of his people answered questions about it! Soon they'll issue a bayan.
As to Arafat and his koufeyeh, we did sometimes saw the man as the cause. Wasn't he referred to as Al Qa'ed al Ramz. Which is a disaster if you think about it: you may have a chance to question al Qa'ed, but al Ramz? (the symbol?) No way.
Hi Batir,
I'm not surprised! I've read worse things in that Abdel Bari Atwan's rag!
