Arab leftists, what is left of them, have finally appointed a woman as editor of a newspaper. The woman is Egyptian Farida al Naqqash and the paper is Al Ahali. (in Arabic)
Does this mean that defending women's rights is now a leftist issue? That's certainly an improvement on the official line of the olden days: generally whenever leftist women wanted to talk, yes, just talk, about issues relating to gender and patriarchy, they were told "mesh wa'tu" (not the right time).
Is it time now?

I wouldn't know if she's a "leftist" or not, but Nadia al-Saqqaf was appointed editor of the Yemen Times in 2005.

Thanks. I didn't know about this one. According to the article she assumed the position to replace her brother, so it seems like it's a family enterprise.
So the leftists can't even claim this one as a first. oh, well.
