Real vs. Declared Objectives of War on Lebanon

According to Uri Avnery, "THE REAL aim [of the Israeli war on Lebanon] is to change the regime in Lebanon and to install a puppet government."

It's an interesting article because it reminds us of the difference between declared Israeli objectives and real ones (major and secondary). I find his argument interesting, if not totally convincing. He keeps saying that the Lebanese government was established with American help. Why would be Israel so eager to replace it then?

Also note that the US just asked Syria to help stop Hizbollah. Syria must be beaming, feeling so important.

He also leaves out Hizbollah's declared and real motives. He leaves out other regional players. It's Incomplete, still worth reading.

So, whatever the Israelis do, you just assume that their real motive is something else. Very convenient. When did the Palestinians develop mind-reading rays?

Refusing to see events as they are is what keeps the Pals oppressed.

You seem to react to my post without reading it. Not only Israel has declared and real motives. And when I say Israel, I mean the government. The Israeli people are manipulated by their politicians like everybody else.

No, I don't think they are manipulated by their government. This democracy thing works differently than that.

Having strategy and projecting consequences is not the same as having evil designs.

ah, the "democracy thing". How condescending!

Are you saying Israeli politicians don't lie? don't hide their true motives? don't manuever for position?

No I got it. You are saying Israel is the ideal republic and its politicans are angels. Get real.
